In this video, Martin Lindstrom talks with Dorie Clark, author and fellow Thinkers50 Ranked Thinker on the future of business due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Martin has a truly refreshing perspective on how we prevail during and after these difficult times with COVID and the decline of empathy.
When we see masks instead of facial expressions, it interferes with our ability to understand each other, disconnecting us. Our interactions are also becoming distanced, through electronic screens, Plexiglass, masks, and many other barriers that are creating an imbalance. With social media and news fueling a fear-driven society, depression and aggression is increasing. This can present us with a new “entry point”.
The seven entry points we have in our life are points where you enter a new phase of lifestyle. These include the first day of school, getting married, getting your first job, your move from your parents’ home, or retiring. For the first time in recent memory, we are entering an eighth entry point due to the coronavirus. With this comes tremendous opportunities for adapting, prevailing, and changing the future of business.
What new products, services, or brands can be created to fill in the gaps and restore the balance that we as humans are craving? Pet sales have increased due to our need for touch – what else will arise as a result of the pandemic?
